Amalgam fillings are made of a combination of metals which are very strong and durable and these are able to withstand the grinding and chewing of molar teeth, It is not unusual for these fillings to last 15 to 20 years as this material has been used in fillings for over 150 years and there is no evidence to prove these fillings are harmful.
